K9 Wellness
WNC K9 has a passion to help create good health, fitness, and wellness for all dogs that want to join the fun.
Clinics and Workshops offered will be fun and add another dimension to the dog-human relationship.
The classes offered within this program will help your dog “workout” both mentally and physically in a safe and controlled social environment.
K9 Wellness is a way of life - for both two- and four-legged students - that may involve a sport or simply a conditioning or confidence building class. It's a great way for owners to have fun with their K9 partner. People can help their dog stay fit without learning to love jogging or be fit enough to hike several miles. This program addresses many things which are fitness effective that you can do with your dog to get and stay healthy.
Whether you choose a sport or come into a confidence building or conditioning class, I’m hoping that owners will learn more about their dogs so that exercising will be fun and more effective. There are several incentives for helping our K9 partners to becoming more fit and flexible. Most dogs need a job. If you don't give them a job (employment), they will make their own job (entrepreneurship), which may be rearranging the house a bit or landscaping the back yard or terrorizing the neighbors. It's so much better if the owners step in and teach a sport or tricks to mentally and physically stimulate the dog.
Under this K9 Wellness program you will see:
K9 Clinics and Workshops are a fun way to add to your relationship with your dog. These opportunities usually involove more then an hour commitment and are task specific. What you walk away with will add another dimension to the dog-human relationship.
K9 Sports is a whole group of class which usually starts with the Intro to Dog Sports class. Then if you are interested with agility, scent work and/or treibball, we can venture down that road after you have gotten the taste of how your dog moves and what you may like as well. These can be competitive sports or just for fun. While most people like to travel and compete, there are some that just like to join the fun for the social aspect of doing a sport as well as the relationship building aspect of performing a sport with their dog.
K9 Conditioning and Confidence Building is a combination of conditioning, flexibility, and body awareness games.
After attending a couple Robert J Porter, CCRP "It’s Possible” Conditioning Workshop, I have gained a better understanding of the benefits of using a force-free approach to keeping our dogs (sport and pet dogs) more fit. I am becoming more knowledgable at evaluating the dog to see what sport that dog would be good in. The dogs structure will impact their performance and their heightened risks of injuries. I have been working on an Intro to Dog Sports class outline that includes some of the safest and effective ways to strengthen your dogs body for the typical movements the 21st century dog does on a daily basis. I’m soooo excited to say, it is possible to keep your active dog healthy.
Each participant needs to understand that this is not a replacement of any rehabilitation program. This is for the healthy dog who wants to be stronger, more flexible, and aware of the position and movement of their body - proprioception!
